On October 19, 2024, the American Numismatic Society (ANS) welcomed over 60 members and guests to its headquarters in New York Metropolis for the 167th Annual Assembly of the ANS. Following the assembly, the 2024 Archer M. Huntington Award for Excellence in Numismatic Scholarship was offered to Dr. William E. Metcalf, who offered the Silvia Mani Hurter Memorial Lecture on “The Making of Roman Provincial Coinage (X).”
The Annual Assembly featured shows from ANS officers and employees on accomplishments from the final fiscal 12 months, and the election of a brand new class of trustees. Attendees loved viewing new acquisitions to the gathering on show, together with objects generously donated to the coin cupboard and library within the final 12 months. The ANS wish to congratulate the newly elected Fellows, Dr. Andrew M. Burnett, Dr. James E. McClellan, and Dr. Roberta Stewart.
Following the annual ANS assembly and a reception, friends gathered for the 2024 Archer M. Huntington Award to Dr. William E. Metcalf. After opening remarks from Dr. Ute Wartenberg, Government Director, Dr. Andrew M. Burnett, ANS Second Vice President, offered the distinguished award to Metcalf, noting his large contributions to Roman and Byzantine numismatics. Metcalf offered the Silvia Mani Hurter Memorial Lecture, “The Making of Roman Provincial Coinage (X),” on the final quantity of his undertaking, which offers a normal typology of the provincial coinage of the Roman Empire.
